| When we hit 1960, a new decade revealed itself with a whole new generation of kids from the post WWII Baby Boomer’s. Complete with a new set of political and cultural values, lifestyles, laws, and entertainment. No more conservative ways for these bright kids’ only revolutionary ideas that would storm the country. Schools and colleges became places of debates and protests against segregation. Fashion was exploding with bright colors and bouffant hairstyles for the women and crew cuts for the men. Mid 60’s peaceful anti-war movements by Martin Luther King and NOT so peaceful movements by Malcolm X were in the news. But it was the shocking and electrifying assignation of President John F. Kennedy in 1963 that paralyzed the country. We needed something to help us heal and get back to business. It came in February of 1964 when these immortal words were spoken by Ed Sullivan… “Ladies and gentleman, The Beatles”. What happened next could only be described as a phenomenon. A band of 4 lads from Liverpool with long hair, (not really) took over the radio stations across the United States and the world with their beautiful harmonies and music. What followed was called the British Invasion. An avalanche of British bands one right after another came over here and took us musically hostage. We had Elvis, Roy Orbison and the Beach Boys and many others but they didn’t fair too well at first site of the Fab-4 but soon it would be a battle for the top of Bill Board’s chart. A battle the Beatles won many times. It’s 2011, and The Fables have taken Colorado by storm playing the BEST Rock n’ Roll music of the 1960’s. These 5 music historians’ will take you back to the Elvis craze to Beatlemania and the British Invasion to the All-American bands that we all grew up on. So put on your Blue Suede Shoes, comb up a pompadour and put on your best flowered or tie dyed shirt. It’s gonna be a WILD and CRAZY Rock n’ Roll ride with The Fables! |
